Jewellery is not provided and must be pre-purchased. A complimentary pre-piercing consultation will confirm the gauge (thickness), length and style of jewellery required. Nickel free Surgical steel, Titanium or 18ct Gold is preferred to minimise the chance of a reaction and aid in a fast recovery. Written parental consent is required for all clients under 18 years of age.

Pre-piercing preparation

  • Eat well, avoid alcohol and drugs before your appointment.
  • Get some sleep. Arriving in a relaxed state will reduce any anxiety.
  • Drink lots of water as hydration aids in the healing process.
  • If you are unwell or overly stressed, postpone your appointment.
  • Arrive clean and comfortable, shower before your piercing as the skin around the piercing should remain dry afterwards.
  • Ensure you are wearing clothing that is light and loose so that any body piercings remain unrestricted by fabric.

    Post-piercing Aftercare

Aftercare is critical for your piercing to heal correctly.

    • Make your next appointment in 8 weeks for a check-up.
    • You should feel supported. You should be able to ask your piercer any follow-up questions – even ones you remember when you get home.
    • Avoid swimming or wetting the pierced area for the first 24 hours.
    • Avoid Alcohol consumption for the first 24 hours.
    • Do not change your piercing for 8 weeks.
    • Healing time differs depending on the area pierced.
    • Any oral piercings must be cleaned with oral saline solution twice a day and after eating. Avoid mouth wash including non-alcohol-based products as they remove the healthy cells needed to heal your new piercing.
    • Do not put make-up and skin care products on your new piercing for 48 hours.
    • Swelling, red patchiness, and fluid secretion may be a sign of irritation, not infection. Call Helena directly for instructions. Do not take your piercing out yourself.  Until you can visit your piercer, keep the area as clean and as dry as possible.
    • Be gentle with your piercing. The area is particularly fragile, so any bumps, scrapes, or rough contact can cause inflammation. This can be as minor as fiddling with your piercing, bumping it on your pillow during sleep, or getting a scratch during a sports game.
    • Initial redness and a minimal amount of bleeding at the entry point of your piercing is normal. This should cease within 24 hours of your piercing, but if it persists, you should contact Helena immediately.
    • If you don't like your piercing, we can take the jewellery out, but you still have the healing process to consider. If you take your jewellery out prematurely, it can lead to scarring and bumps. So be 100% sure of your decision and piercing placement before you make an appointment.

Some do’s and don'ts once your piercing is in:

    • Do wash lightly twice a day with saline solution
    • Do avoid using ointments or creams for the first week
    • Don’t pull at the new piercing or play with it
    • Don't tamper with the wound, this may cause the open wound to attract bacteria and germs from your hands.
